General terms and conditions

Rules common to all users. Service- or role-specific terms apply in addition.

Version 1.1 · Updated on October 14, 2026

1. Acceptance of the terms

Registering and using Mizuu implies full acceptance of these terms, the legal notice, the privacy policy, the cookie policy and, depending on the role you take on or the service you use, the corresponding specific terms (adoption, shop, rescues, vets, foster homes, rescue, NFC).

If you do not agree with any of these texts, you must not register or use the platform.

2. Account registration

To access the authenticated features you must create an account. To do so:

  • You must be 16 or older, and you state this when you sign up. To open a shelter, clinic or professional account, or to sign an adoption, you must be of legal age.
  • You must provide truthful, complete and up-to-date information, and keep it updated.
  • You must choose a password that meets the complexity policy (at least 8 characters with lowercase, uppercase and numbers).
  • Each individual may have only one personal account. Organisation accounts (rescue, veterinary clinic) are linked to a responsible human user.
  • You must verify your email by clicking the link you will receive. Without verification you cannot log in.

Mizuu may reject or cancel any registration that breaches these rules, without prior notice.

3. Roles and verifications

The following roles exist within the platform:

  • User — adopts or already has their own pets. Default access.
  • Rescue — organisation that rehomes animals. Requires registration and documentary verification (company/charity number, Charity Commission registration, articles of association). See specific terms.
  • Vet / clinic — professional or centre subscribed to one of the plans. Requires registration. See specific terms.
  • Foster home — volunteer invited by a rescue. See specific terms.
  • Rescue volunteer — regular user who joins an active session on an ad-hoc basis. See specific terms.
  • Service professional — dog walker, pet sitter, daycare, pet hotel, trainer or groomer, as a professional or as a private individual. See terms for professionals and for booking services.
  • Mizuu Administration — internal team with special privileges to verify rescues, handle fraud and distribute sponsorship compensation.

4. User content

When you upload content to Mizuu (a photo of your pet, a description, a review, a chat message, a medical event, audio during a rescue, etc.) you declare and warrant that:

  • You are the owner or have valid authorisation.
  • The content does not infringe third-party rights (intellectual property, honour, privacy, image).
  • The content is not illegal, does not incite hatred, is not misleading and does not harm animal welfare.
  • You grant Mizuu a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence for the entire legal protection period to host, display and distribute the content within the platform for the service's own purpose (search, public listing, passport, etc.).

You retain the intellectual property of your content and may request its removal at any time.

5. Prohibited conduct

The following is expressly prohibited:

  • Impersonating another person, organisation or rescue.
  • Attempting to buy or sell animals through Mizuu under any guise (the platform only allows adoption through a verified rescue with a regulated donation).
  • Activating neighbourhood rescue fraudulently (pet not lost, doxxing attempt, prank).
  • Uploading photos or videos of animal abuse, except when channelled specifically as a report to the Mizuu team.
  • Carrying out mass scraping, unauthorised automation or attacks against the availability of the service.
  • Sharing credentials or tokens with third parties.
  • Circumventing security mechanisms, rate limits, lockouts or verifications.
  • Reusing the chat system for spam, external marketing or unauthorised sales.

6. Pet data and digital passport

Each pet registered on Mizuu receives a digital passport with a permanent number in the format WP-XXXXXX. This number stays with the animal for its whole life, regardless of changes of owner or rescue.

The health record linked to the passport (vaccinations, vet visits, treatments) is accessible by:

  • The current owner.
  • The original ceding rescue (read-only, for post-adoption follow-up).
  • Any vet in the Mizuu network who is presented with the passport (can read and add entries related to their care).

The adopter or owner undertakes not to falsify or delete legitimate entries from the history.

7. Chat and messaging

The chat between adopters and rescues (or vets) is encrypted at rest (AES-256-GCM). Mizuu does not intentionally implement end-to-end encryption, so that it can moderate content in the event of a legal complaint or abusive conduct. Moderation by the team is carried out only when there is a formal complaint or an automated signal of abuse.

8. Penalties and account suspension

Mizuu may apply the following measures depending on the severity of the breach:

  • Warning — a reminder of the rules.
  • Temporary block — suspension of the ability to apply, walk, chat or use the rescue feature. Indicative period: 7-30 days.
  • Permanent block — closure of the account. Applies to fraud, impersonation, attempted covert sale, rescue abuse, cruelty.
  • Report to the authorities — the police, the RSPCA (animal welfare) or the ICO (data protection), where the facts may constitute a criminal offence or administrative infringement.

Penalties are notified by email. The user may appeal by replying to that communication; the case will be reviewed by a different person from the one who applied the initial penalty.

9. Voluntary account closure

You can leave at any time from your dashboard (Settings → Privacy → Delete my account). Your personal data (email, name, phone, address and photo) is deleted right away. What is part of an animal's history (profiles, walks, applications) is kept without your name, under “Deleted account”, so as not to break the traceability of adoptions and donations. The action is irreversible; you will be able to sign up again with a different email.

10. Amendments

Mizuu may amend these terms when justified by the evolution of the service or regulatory changes. Substantial changes are notified by email at least 15 days in advance, and fresh acceptance is required where applicable. The date and version are shown in the header.

11. Booking services on Mizuu

When you book a service for your pet (walking, care, daycare, pet hotel, training or grooming), Mizuu only acts as an intermediary: the contract is between you and whoever provides the service, who may be a professional or a private individual (you'll see it on their profile before booking). With a private individual, the consumer rights against a business do not apply.

While online payment is not active, booking means sending a request: whoever provides the service confirms it and charges directly. All the detail (commission, cancellation, withdrawal and reviews) is in the terms for professionals and for booking services.

12. Reviews and order of results

Only someone who has had a real relationship through Mizuu can give their opinion: a completed booking with a professional, a completed appointment or a recorded visit with a clinic, or an adoption with a shelter. The system checks this before letting the review be written. We publish positive and negative opinions, we don't pay for them or exchange them for discounts, and we remove illegal ones or ones proven to be fake.

Order: in the clinic directory, if you don't search for anything, clinics with a Mizuu plan come first (marked as “Featured”) and then the rest, by the average of verified reviews; if you search, by what best matches your search. In the service directories, first the profiles with the Mizuu Team kit (paid, with its badge), then verified ones, then professionals, then by reviews and lastly the most recent. Any other paid position will be marked as “Promoted”.

13. Reporting content (Digital Services Act)

You can report any animal listing, shelter or professional profile, or review with the “Report” button (for example: disguised animal sales, abuse, impersonation, fake review or other illegal content). We'll ask you for the reason, a short explanation and, if you aren't logged in, an email so we can reply to you.

We'll confirm we've received it, a person will review it and we'll tell you what we've decided. If we remove content or limit an account, we'll explain the reason to whoever posted it, who can appeal as stated in point 8. Point of contact for users and authorities (arts. 11 and 12 of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065): [email protected].

If you find any discrepancy between this text and the applicable legislation, the latter prevails. The Mizuu legal team reviews the documents at least once a year and whenever there is a relevant regulatory change. For questions, write to legal@mizuu.pet.
