1. Minimum registration age
The minimum age to create an account on Mizuu is 16 years, and you state it with a mandatory checkbox when you sign up. The Organic Law 3/2018 (LOPDGDD) allows consent from 14, but we have chosen a higher threshold because Mizuu includes chat, adoptions and bookings with third parties.
To open a shelter, veterinary clinic or professional account, get paid for services or sign an adoption contract, you must be of legal age. We recommend that accounts of 16- and 17-year-olds be supervised by an adult.
2. Parental consent
When parental consent is required:
- Registration is done from the adult's email, who accepts the terms and takes responsibility.
- The minor cannot accept binding contracts (sign an adoption, buy in the shop, take out food subscriptions or the vet plan) on their own.
- The adult can exercise the minor's data rights at any time (access, rectification, erasure).
3. Children's data in the adoption application form
When an adult adopter fills in their adoption form and declares that minors live in their household, Mizuu asks for:
- Only the age range (e.g. "8 and 13 years old"). We do not ask for the minor's name, photos or direct identifying data.
- The adopter may voluntarily link accounts of children aged 16 or older, with their consent, so that they appear in the “animal's family” once the adoption is completed.
This data is only visible to the shelter the adopter applies to and to Mizuu as custodian. It is never published or transferred to third parties.
4. Images and voice of minors
It is prohibited to upload to the platform:
- Photos in which recognisable minors appear, except on their own pet's profile when it is clearly their own animal and the responsible adult authorises it.
- Voice notes of minors in the neighbourhood rescue module.
- Chat messages that identify a specific minor within the adopter's or shelter's circle.
The Mizuu team will remove any content that breaches these rules and will apply the corresponding penalty regime.
5. Detection of improper minors' accounts
If Mizuu detects, or receives a well-founded report, that an account belongs to someone under 16:
- It suspends the account immediately.
- It writes to the registered email to ask for clarification about the age.
- If it is confirmed that the person is under 16, or if there is no reply within 30 days, it deletes the account and its personal data.
6. Rights of parents and guardians
The parent or legal guardian of a minor with a Mizuu account can:
- Request access, rectification or erasure of the minor's data by writing to legal@mizuu.pet with proof of parental responsibility.
- Request information about the account's activity and, where appropriate, report inappropriate content the minor may have seen or uploaded.
- Exercise any other right set out in the privacy policy.
