History and origin

Intelligent, loyal and well-balanced when properly socialised and trained. Needs daily mental stimulation. Responds best to positive reinforcement. Physical punishment breeds fear and reactivity.
Living together
Children: with respectful older children. **Other dogs:** variable. **Rodents:** strong prey drive.

Care in detail
🍽️ Nutrition
Quality small-breed food in 2 meals, with portion control: it is compact and short-legged, easy to overfeed, and excess weight punishes its long back. Lean treats and no fatty leftovers.
✂️ Grooming
A wiry, double, white and eye-catching coat: brush 2-3 times a week and hand-strip every 8-10 weeks (or clip). Keep the beard clean and check the furnishings; white hair stains and requires careful baths and thorough drying.
🎓 Training
Calmer and more thoughtful than the average terrier, but with an independent streak. Responds well to positive reinforcement, short sessions and patience. Socialise it as a puppy: it tends to be reserved and watchful with strangers.
🏃 Exercise
45-60 minutes daily split between walks and scent games. It has moderate energy for a terrier: it enjoys tracking and digging, but is content with less exercise than a Welsh or a Fox. Ideal for anyone wanting a terrier without so much drive.
Breed-specific health
Conditions commonly seen in the breed according to the FCI group. Life expectancy of 12-14 years with proper care. Annual vet check plus blood work from the age of 5.
🩺 Health predispositions of this breed
Conditions this breed is more predisposed to. Knowing about them helps with prevention and early detection. A predisposition does not mean the animal will develop them.
