Live insects 8-15 € + supplements 2-4 € + UVB/heat electricity 5-10 € + amortisation of the UVB tube.
History and origin
A small arboreal anole from the south-eastern USA, able to change from green to brown; a delicate and very active reptile.
Temperament and character
Reptiles are NOT social like mammals. They tolerate handling but do not seek company. Trust is earned with patience.
Living together
Children: depends on the species + educational handling. **Other pets:** avoid — two-way risk. **Other reptiles:** depending on the species, separate terrariums are best.
Life stages of the Anolis Verde
Each stage has its own care priorities. Life expectancy: 5-7 años.
Hatchling/Neonate
0-2 months
Tiny and delicate: gentle UVB, heat at 28-30 °C, high humidity; micro-insects dusted with calcium.
Juvenile
2-6 months
Small insects daily with calcium, a planted terrarium with humidity and water droplets to drink.
Subadult
6-10 months
Planted vertical terrarium, a 26-30 °C gradient and UVB; varied insects.
Adult
10 months+
A varied insectivore diet, constant humidity and UVB; managing frequent egg-laying in females.
Care
Terrarium: minimum size according to species (check species-specific guides). UVB is mandatory for diurnal species.
Temperature: day/night gradient · warm vs cool zone for thermoregulation.
Humidity: according to species (rainforest 70%+ · desert 30-50%).
Feeding: species-specific diet · insectivores, herbivores and carnivores vary radically.
Vet: exotics vet (a general vet will NOT do). Annual check-up.
Care in detail
🍽️ Nutrition
Insectivore: crickets, fruit flies and small insects dusted with calcium/D3 and a weekly multivitamin. Drinks droplets of water misted onto leaves.
✂️ Grooming
Needs no bathing. Keep humidity at 60-70% with daily misting for complete sheds; watch the toes and tail.
🎓 Training
A species for observation, not handling: handling stresses it. Get it used to human presence without forcing contact.
🏃 Exercise
A planted vertical terrarium (min. 45x45x60 cm) with branches and foliage to climb; thermal gradient of 24-30 °C, a basking spot of 30-32 °C and a night-time drop to 20-22 °C.
Breed-specific health
Lack of UVB (rickets, MBD), parasites, respiratory infections from incorrect humidity. Life expectancy 5-7 years when well cared for.
🩺 Health predispositions of this breed
Conditions this breed is more predisposed to. Knowing about them helps with prevention and early detection. A predisposition does not mean the animal will develop them.
